Boon Lay Hawker Centre

Boon Lay Hawker Centre is located at 221 Boon Lay Place, Singapore 640221. It’s a great place for dinner and late night supper!

The most famous stall here is the Power Nasi Lemak, always has long queues. The other foods that we like here are the duck noodles, hokkien mee, pork and chicken satay, chicken wings, char kway teow, penang laksa, thosai and egg omelette.

Holland Village Market

The Holland Village Market & Food Centre is located at 1 Lorong Mambong right in the heart of Holland Village. Most of the food stalls here are decent, and there are some that are our favourites – the economy bee hoon, the porridge stall which also sells roast meat, dry ban mian, kim chi beef ramen, nasi lemak.

My absolute favourite ice coffee in Singapore is right here from Shan Quan Cafe stall – ice coffee for only $1.20, and the coffee has a kick to it!!!

And also, just walk over to the wet market section, the first stall on the left from the connecting staircase is Guan Seng Coffee. This is where I buy my coffee grounds from – cheap local coffee grounds for $1 per 100 grams which makes great cold brew coffee (and hot too, but I like cold much better!). He also sells ‘western’ coffee beans or grounds like arabica and colombia coffee etc.

Thai Food at Balestier Market

Balestier Market is located at 414 Balestier Road (just after the Boon Tong Kee). For those driving, there is a public car park behind the market, enter from Prome Road and turn right at the top of the hill.

We love the thai food there from the back right corner stall called John Thai Food. A really nice dish is the lemongrass steam squid which reminds us of our favourite Bangkok restaurant (Sa-Bai-Jai). The other dishes from this thai stall are really good too! Go check it out.

Al-Azhar Eating House at Upper Bukit Timah

Al-Azhar Eating House is located 11 Cheong Chin Nam Road – the row of shops at Upper Bukit directly opposite Bukit Timah Shopping Centre. Al-Azhar is a halal restaurant which serves a great variety of muslim, indian and thai food. They also have great local drinks like ice-limau and milo dinosaur. They are open 24 hours and it’s a great place for a late night supper.

Kim San Leng Teochew Porridge

This is my favourite teochew porridge place in Singapore – Kim San Leng Teochew Porridge is one of the most affordable and good teochew porridge stalls in Singapore. They are located at Blk 116 Henderson Road / Bukit Merah View. They are opened from 10.30am to 5.30am daily, except closed every Tuesday. Cheap and good food, in an old school coffee shop setting!

Joo Seng Teochew Porridge

Here’s a good teochew porridge place at Upper Bukit Timah Road, at the row of shop houses opposite Bukit Timah Shopping Centre, and just next to Beauty World MRT station along Downtown Line.

Joo Seng Teo Chew Porridge is at 14 Cheong Chin Nam Road, and they are open daily from 10am – 4am. Yep! Lunch, dinner and late night supper!

They managed to survive the few years of MRT construction works. They were less crowded before the MRT station open, but now that entire row of shops is buzzing with crowds most evenings.
